Lewis Center UMC makes a REAL IMPACT through our involvement in mission and service.

We strive to put our faith into action and to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.  We follow Christ's example by sharing the story of God's love, feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, encouraging the disheartened, healing the sick, befriending the outcast, etc.  At Lewis Center UMC we give our time and energy as well as our resources.  We encourage our children and youth to participate in serving others, thus developing a compassionate heart in tomorrow's world leaders.  Get your whole family involved in serving others!

People in Need (PIN) is our Delaware County food bank.  We support PIN in a variety of ways:  donate groceries & personal care items weekly; volunteer on site weekly; collect back to school supplies and money for new school shoes; collect winter coats, hats, and mittens for the Christmas Clearinghouse; help staff the Christmas Clearinghouse; collect 9-volt batteries for household smoke detectors; hold a "Harvest Parade" to stock groceries for the holidays; provide an Emergency Fund to assist with rent, utilities, prescriptions, etc.

Relay for Life raises funds and awareness for Cancer Research.  We participate at the Olentangy High School relay in June.  We provide a walking team and sponsors, staff booths and tethered hot air balloon rides, purchase luminaries in memory or in honor of loved ones, and provide leadership for a memorial service and sunrise service.

Youth Summer Mission Trip provides high school teens an opportunity to put their faith into action, make and deepen friendships, and learn new skills as they devote an entire week to serving people in poverty.  The church supports the youth by helping to raise funds and providing leadsership for the trip.

Common Ground is the Free Store, which provides gently used clothing and household items for residents of Delaware County. The first Saturday of every month we volunteer to serve/host/stock shelves at Common Ground.  Twice a year the Youth Group gathers donations from the church family to take to Common Ground, and people are encouraged to take donations there anytime.

Church for all People is a United Methodist Church on the south side of Columbus, which provides resources and services to the homeless in our area. The second Sunday of every month, we provide and serve breakfast to the homeless before their worship service.

United Methodist Children's Home in Worthington is a ministry that works to care for, heal, and strengthen children and families experiencing conflict, violence, or other instability.  We provide over 100 Easter Baskets, so that every child may know the joy and hope of Easter and experience a bit of "new life" in the midst of difficulty.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is the focus of our emerging involvement in global mission.  This year we are supporting "Wings of the Morning", a vital airplane ministry, which transports medical emergencies as well as necessary supplies in a country where roads are nearly nonexistent.  We are working to build and strengthen connections with the people of the DRC.

Communion Offerings are gathered during worship on the first Sunday of every month.  As we come forward to receive Communion, we give of ourselves to help others, as a way to remember Christ gave himself for us.  Recipients of our Communion Offerings include Turning Point (refuge for battered women and children), Grady Memorial Hospital (baby clothes and supplies), West Ohio Annual Conference (Miracle Offering), as well as the projects and organizations listed above.

Other projects include:
  • Handmade baby blankets for children in crisis
  • Eyeglasses to be distributed by the Lions Club
  • Coats for God's People - gently used coats for the poor and homeless
  • Blood Drives for American Red Cross
  • United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the arm of our church who is the first responder in times of national or global disaster. When such a catastrophe occurs, Lewis Center UMC immediately gathers funds or supplies to support UMCOR.
  • Apportionments - Lewis Center UMC supports the global mission and ministry of the greater United Methodist Church through our budgeted "fair share". Together with all United Methodist Churches we can make a greater impact around the world than we ever could on our own.
